Day One:
ARRIVAL IN BUDAPEST | no guide

  • Arrive at Budapest International Airport.
  • Welcome by your driver and transfer to the hotel.
  • Check into the hotel. (Official hotel check-in is from 3:00 p.m., if your room isn't ready upon arrival you can leave your luggage with the concierge.)
  • Remainder of the day at leisure to get acclimated and explore on your own.
  • Dinner on your own and evening at leisure.

Day Two:
BUDAPEST - A TALE OF TWO CITIES

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Meet your guide in the hotel lobby and begin your journey.
  • Take a panoramic tour along Andrassy Avenue and visit Heroes' Square, one of Budapest's landmarks. Relive the 1,000 years of Hungarian history through the square's impressive statues of kings and leaders. 
  • From Pest to Buda, drive through the city, cross the river and ascend Castle Hill - where among other historical sites, stands the first royal castle of the city. Enjoy the panoramic views of Budapest from the top of the Fisherman's Bastion, which commemorates the Fishermen who were guarding the city.
  • Shop with the locals at the Great Market Hall. This 3-level indoor complex includes vendors of local seasonal produce, spices and handcrafted gifts. Enjoy a traditional lunch on own in one of the street food oriented restaurants, with Hungarian music in the background. 
  • Explore the story of Jewish Budapest over the past 150 years, including visits to:
    • The largest synagogue in Europe, the Dohany Street Synagogue. Built in 1859, the synagogue holds 3,000 seats and is home to one of the Neolog communities of Budapest.
    • The Jewish Museum, which is housed on the site of Theodor Herzl's family home. This museum holds a unique collection of Jewish artifacts, art and memorabilia, which shed a new light on the rich Jewish life and predominant Jewish community of Hungary, its influence on Hungarian society and its long-lasting memory.  
    • The complex courtyard, where the Community Holocaust Memorial stands. This impressive monument commemorates over 500,000 Hungarian Jews who perished in the Holocaust.
  • Return to the hotel.
  • Dinner on your own and evening at leisure.

Day Three:
EXPLORE BUDAPEST YOUR WAY | no guide

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Day at leisure to explore the sites and scenes of Budapest on your own, with the opportunity to:
    • Stroll along the fashionable Vaci Utca (Vaci Street), enjoy people watching and feel the vibe with its many local boutiques, shops and cafes.
    • Enjoy a romantic walk in Margaret Island, an island in the middle of the Danube, overlooking the center of the city. Stroll along the medieval ruins, through a small zoo, a magical musical fountain, a water tower, pools and a water park, with the local residents. During the summer days, you can enjoy a show in the open-air theater and cinema.
    • Visit Budapest's urban City Park (Varosliget). Walk on the grounds of the Vajdahunyad Castle, the 120-year-old castle showcasing the architectural evolution through centuries and styles in Hungary. Stroll through the City Park Lake, which is great for rowing in summer and ice skating in winter, and spend some entertaining time in the Budapest Circus or the 100-year-old Municipal Zoo.
    • Visit the Széchenyi Bathhouse or Gellert Bathhouse, known for their healing waters. Inside and on the grounds of these beautiful palace compounds, you can enjoy various styles of indoor and outdoor medicinal and natural pools.
    • Enjoy a cruise on the Danube River to see Budapest's major landmarks in a different light.
    • Enjoy Budapest's vibrant nightlife on your own and perhaps see the Jewish Quarter come to life, with an international and current vibe. Enjoy Kazincy Street's restored and renovated warehouses, better known as the Ruin Pubs, transformed into fashionable bars and bistros. Explore Gozsdu Udvar, through its passages and courtyards, featuring a wide range of restaurants and bars. Good food, live music and dance club options are spread throughout the neighborhood.

Day Four:
RETURN HOME | no guide

  • Transfer to Budapest International Airport.
  • Departure flight to the U.S.A., arriving the same day.

The hotel is located in the heart of Budapest (5th district, city centre), a few meters from the world famous Vaci pedestrianized shopping street (váci utca). 


  • Rates are per person based on double occupancy and a minimum of 4 full paying participants per vehicle. Should the number of participants drop below the minimum listed above, we will adjust the cost of the trip to reflect the additional expense of operating the program.
  • Tour prices are per person in U.S. dollars. All hotel accommodations, motor coach transportation, special dinners, sightseeing, admissions, luggage handling and the services of local guides, drivers, and the Expedition Educator are included.
  • Hotel Accommodations: The tour price includes all hotel accommodations, in hotel rooms with private baths. Our standard is to provide the best available hotels while considering value. Although the level of the accommodations may differ slightly from hotel to hotel, we are committed to your comfort. Two-bed rooms are reserved in most hotels. Triples are two-bed rooms with a rollaway cot where available and are not recommended when considering the comfort of those in the room. King-size beds are not available in most hotels; what is considered king-size usually consists of two single beds pushed together and made up separately, but with one headboard. Some two-bed rooms may have two twin - not full- or queen-size - beds.
  • Meals are included as specified in the itinerary.
  • Expedition Educator: All trips are conducted by our Expedition Educators or local guides who remain with the group throughout the tour.
  • Luggage Responsibility: All tour packages allow one piece of luggage per person and one carry-on bag. Excess luggage will be subject to charge of up to $100 per piece. The Travel Agent and/or Tour Operator shall not be held responsible for any damage to or loss of luggage/personal items. All damage/loss must be reported at time of incident and documented in writing by local authorities for submission to your insurance company.
  • Escorted tour packages are based upon a minimum number of participants. Cancellation of any tour for lack of participation will be advised at least 30 days prior to the tour's departure, and all money will be refunded. Landmark Cultural Expeditions will not be held responsible for any costs relating to the issuance and/or cancellation of airline tickets or visa fees. Voluntary cancellations due to political instability, acts of terrorism, government intervention or US State Department warning will be subject to the above fees, provided the program is deemed (by Landmark Cultural Expeditions) able to continue. Should Landmark Cultural Expeditions elect to cancel a departure for any of these reasons, every effort will be made to obtain refunds from suppliers, however no guarantees can be provided on their behalf.

  • Airfare to the tour departure point and from the tour ending point is not included. 
  • Personal Expenses: All personal expenses such as: laundry, valet service, cables, telephone calls and postage are not included.
  • Tips to the tour educator and driver (recommended guidelines vary based on number of participants)
    • For a group of 4-9 passengers in a mini-van with a separate driver:
      $100 per day for the tour guide & $50 per day for the driver
    • For a group of 10 – 19 passengers:
      $10 per participant per day for the tour guide & $5 per participant per day for the driver

Additional Information

  • Airline Security Measures: In the U.S., you must provide identification in the form of a passport at the time of airport check-in for travel to international destinations. Your passport name must match the name on your tour reservation and airline ticket or you may be denied boarding.
  • If you are traveling from an airport outside the jurisdiction of the U.S, you will need to determine what travel documentation and identification is required for that particular airport.
  • Due to heightened security regulations, certain items such as a metal nail file, pocketknife, cigarette lighter or tweezers, and some liquid, gel, or aerosol items may not be permitted in your carry-on luggage. Please call your airline prior to departure to obtain current information on non-permissible carry-on items and recommended airport check-in times. You may also wish to visit the Transportation Security Administration website at www.tsa.gov to obtain more information on acceptable identity documentation and prohibited luggage items.
  • Holidays and Museum Closures - Museum visits and personal shopping time may be disrupted due to unforeseen circumstances or the many religious, state and local holidays locally observed in the destinations being visited.
  • Photography During Tours: We will occasionally use photographs taken by fellow guests or your trip director for promotional purposes. If you prefer that your photo not be used in any marketing activities, please notify us at the start of your tour.
